This in-depth course is crafted to empower educators with the essential skills and knowledge for nurturing early literacy in children. Participants will develop a deep understanding of phonological and phonemic awareness and their pivotal roles in literacy development. The program covers the fundamentals of phonics and speech development, enabling educators to master the five basic skills of reading and writing.
The course introduces the 42 letter sounds, their formation, associated actions, and mnemonic stories to make learning engaging for children. It includes techniques for blending, segmenting, and manipulating sounds, as well as distinguishing between digraphs, graphemes, and diphthongs. Educators will also learn to identify long and short vowel sounds, address tricky words, and navigate alternative spellings effectively.
Advanced concepts such as syllabification principles, basic spelling rules, and “jailed words” are covered to enhance understanding. The program also focuses on developing proper pencil grip for effective writing and delving into advanced phonics concepts.
Additionally, participants will acquire strategies for creating engaging lessons through games, activities, worksheets, and effective lesson planning, ensuring a fun and impactful learning experience for young learners.
